Nicholas Clayton Marsh, elder son of Kenrick Clayton Marsh of Hoylake, was born on November 14, 1895, and was killed in action at Cuinchy, in the Battle of Loos, on September 25, 1915.

After the Great War many Rolls of Honour were produced to remember the dead. I shall be listing extracts from these rolls to illustrate the individual stories of many that died during the conflict.

Birdsong - BBC Part 1

It’s been a few years since I first read the novel Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks. So I was looking forward to the BBCs adaptation hoping it would do it justice, well it did more than that. Mr Faulks must be a very pleased man.

War Horse - The Real Stories

The film War Horse has reminded me of the veterans featured in Great War Portraits who had experiences with horses during the First World War. 'Smiler' Marshall and 'Robbie' Burns recall their harrowing experiences during the Great War.
