Alex Gibson M.M. 6th Bn Liverpool Regt., & 165th Coy M.G.C. and me (in a former life) 'Somewhere in France' 1984. In December 1984 I traveled to Liverpool to photograph Alex wearing his original WW1 uniform. I stayed over night, he was cared for by his daughter Anne until his death in 1994 at 97 years old. Amazingly he'd had a stroke when he was 88, this fighting spirit that won him a Military Medal for bravery in the field, East of Ypres, near Hill 35, on 20th September 1917, 55th (West Lancashire) Division. A wonderful character I was proud to meet. Alex features in 'Great war Portraits'. ©KeithCollman 2014
